Super Falcons Consider Boycott of December FIFA Window Over Unpaid Entitlements

The Super Falcons are contemplating a boycott of the upcoming FIFA international window next month, unless the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) addresses all overdue bonuses and allowances that have not been paid since the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as reported by The Punch on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Insiders from the team reported on Sunday that athletes are still waiting for payment of match bonuses, camp fees, and winning bonuses from their Olympic involvement, during which Nigeria was eliminated in the group phase after losing to Brazil, Spain, and Japan.
A veteran player, who chose to remain unnamed due to the delicate nature of the issue, revealed that the squad had collectively decided against responding to any calls to join the national team until the owed payments are resolved.
“We have shown patience for far too long. The money belongs to us, and we can no longer accept mere promises,” the player stated to journalists in Abuja.
The FIFA international window set between December 2 and 10 is anticipated to feature friendly matches to aid the Super Falcons' preparation for the qualifiers of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Nevertheless, the NFF has yet to publish a preliminary roster or disclose any confirmed match schedules.
This is not the inaugural occasion that the nine-time African champions have hinted at potential action due to unpaid compensation. While participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia, the players conducted a sit-in protest at their accommodation prior to receiving a partial payment of some outstanding allowances.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary-General of the NFF, recognized the players’ grievances on Sunday and confirmed active negotiations with the National Sports Commission to settle the financial issues before the window commences.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and vice-captain Osinachi Ohale have reportedly updated interim head coach Justin Madugu, who was appointed in October after the departure of American coach Randy Waldrum, regarding the players’ position.
As of late Monday, neither the team nor their representatives had issued an official statement, and the upcoming training camp that was set to begin next week is now uncertain.
