Osimhen on verge of more European history

Osimhen already ranks as the top-scoring Nigerian in Champions League history with 12 goals, ahead of Martins (10), Julius Aghahowa (seven), Emmanuel Emenike (seven), Ikpeba (seven), and Yakubu (seven).
In terms of overall Champions League appearances, Nwankwo Kanu leads the way with 60 for Ajax and Arsenal, followed by John Obi Mikel with 59 for Chelsea.
Osimhen has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s impressive Champions League campaign this season, scoring the decisive penalty in their 1-0 victory over Liverpool before netting a brace against Bodø/Glimt.
His goal against Bodø/Glimt saw him become the first Galatasaray player to score in seven consecutive European matches, surpassing the previous record held by Burak Yilmaz. He will also have an eye on extending that record.
Speaking after Galatasaray’s goalless draw against Trabzonspor on Saturday, Osimhen promised fans an improved performance in Amsterdam.
“We couldn’t make our fans happy today, but we will do our best to make them smile in the Ajax match on Wednesday,” he told Eno Sportz.
The Nigerian forward then told UEFA on Tuesday that Galatasaray are ready to make a statement in Europe’s elite competition.
“I spoke with the president when I arrived here, and we agreed that we want to make a statement in the Champions League,” Osimhen said.
“We’ve dominated the Turkish league for years, but now we want to show that we can compete among the best in Europe.”
With 43 goals in 49 appearances for the Yellow-Reds, Osimhen has already surpassed several club greats in the all-time scoring chart.
Galatasaray will travel to the Johan Cruyff Arena seeking a third consecutive Champions League win after victories over Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt.
Galatasaray remain top of the Turkish Super League with 29 points, four ahead of second-placed Fenerbahce.
With history beckoning, all eyes will be on Osimhen as he looks to continue his remarkable European journey and cement his place among Nigeria’s greatest continental performers.
Osimhen stands as the highest-scoring Nigerian in the history of the Champions League, having netted 12 goals, outpacing Martins (10), Julius Aghahowa (seven), Emmanuel Emenike (seven), Ikpeba (seven), and Yakubu (seven).
When it comes to total appearances in the Champions League, Nwankwo Kanu is at the forefront with 60 across his time with Ajax and Arsenal, closely followed by John Obi Mikel who has made 59 appearances for Chelsea.
Osimhen has played a crucial role in Galatasaray’s remarkable Champions League run this year, contributing the winning penalty in their 1-0 success against Liverpool, and following that with two goals in the match against Bodø/Glimt.
By scoring against Bodø/Glimt, he has become the first player for Galatasaray to find the net in seven straight European contests, surpassing the earlier record set by Burak Yilmaz. He is also poised to extend this achievement.
After Galatasaray's scoreless tie with Trabzonspor on Saturday, Osimhen assured supporters of a better showing in Amsterdam.
“Today, we weren’t able to bring joy to our fans, but we’re determined to make them happy in the Ajax game on Wednesday,” he stated to Eno Sportz.
On Tuesday, Osimhen informed UEFA that Galatasaray is prepared to make an impact in Europe’s top tournament.
“I discussed with the president upon my arrival that we aim to leave a mark in the Champions League,” Osimhen shared.
“For years, we have been dominant in the Turkish league, but now we want to prove that we can stand amongst Europe’s elite.”
With 43 goals from 49 matches for the Yellow-Reds, Osimhen has already exceeded several legendary players in the club’s scoring history.
Galatasaray is heading to the Johan Cruyff Arena in pursuit of their third straight Champions League victory, following wins against Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt.
Sitting at the top of the Turkish Super League with 29 points, Galatasaray holds a four-point lead over their nearest rivals, Fenerbahce.
As history is within reach, all attention will be on Osimhen as he aims to persist in his extraordinary European journey and solidify his status among the finest continental players from Nigeria.
