The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a prominent lineup of Team Nigeria Ambassadors in anticipation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
At the forefront of this group are experienced sports officials, such as Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, Dr. Amos Adamu, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut, and Gbenga Elegbeleye. Each of them has held the position of Director-General at the NSC and is expected to oversee Nigeria's preparations and involvement in the upcoming event.
Included in the ambassadorial group are accomplished athletes and sports professionals like Olympic medallist Daniel Igali, wrestling star Blessing Oborodudu, Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman, and Victor Iroele.
The partnership with corporate entities and institutions is represented by Premium Trust Bank and Wale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The commission indicated that these appointments represent a strategic mix of governance expertise, athlete experience, and corporate collaboration as Nigeria ramps up its readiness for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Glasgow will be the venue for this event, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026, featuring competitions held throughout the city of Glasgow in Scotland. Approximately 74 Commonwealth nations and regions are anticipated to take part.
Organizers have confirmed a condensed program highlighting 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, and gymnastics. Para-sports will be comprehensively included in the event programming.
