Chelsea won against Fluminense with a score of 2-0, advancing to the final of the Club World Cup.

On Tuesday, Chelsea secured a place in the Club World Cup final after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Fluminense, with new signing Joao Pedro scoring both goals during his first start.
The Brazilian forward made an impressive impact in the 18th minute under the stadium lights of MetLife, adding another goal just before the 60-minute mark. This win sets up a final confrontation with either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid this coming Sunday.
Joao Pedro, who recently transferred from Brighton and Hove Albion for around ÂŁ60 million ($79 million), had abbreviated his holiday to make his debut as a substitute in the quarter-final against Palmeiras. In this match, he started in the absence of the suspended Liam Delap.
Despite his success, Joao Pedro didn’t celebrate his goals against Fluminense, the team where he began his career and made 36 appearances before joining Watford in 2020.
Fluminense's exit marks the end of their remarkable journey in the tournament, having previously held Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, defeated Inter Milan in the Round of 16, and eliminated Al-Hilal, who had beaten Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
This outcome also dimmed the hopes of a South American team winning the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup, as Chelsea took down Brazilian teams consecutively to advance to the final.
As expected, the trophy is poised to go to one of Europe’s football giants, now that the final will feature two of the past five UEFA Champions League champions.
Fluminense's coach, Renato Portaluppi, labeled his squad as the “ugly duckling” of the tournament, highlighting the stark contrast between their budget and those of the other contenders in the United States. Ultimately, this match proved to be a challenging step for their team, captained by the seasoned former Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, aged 40.
