Osimhen starts treatment for an ankle sprain.

Galatasaray's team physician, Dr. Yener Slim, reported that Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen sustained an ankle sprain during his international match on Saturday, where Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers
Osimhen had to leave the field halfway through the first half after a challenge from Claude Niyomugabo, which has ruled him out of the critical match against South Africa scheduled for Tuesday in Bloemfontein.
The initial assessment by the Super Eagles’ medical staff indicated that he had a bruise on his shin.
“According to the team doctor, Victor Osimhen’s injury is indeed a bruise on his shin. He experienced discomfort this morning (Sunday) and will not accompany the team to South Africa for Tuesday's match,” stated Promise Efoghe, the Media Officer for the Super Eagles.
The player has returned to Turkey, and Galatasaray also performed additional tests on their star signing.
“Today (Tuesday), our hospital conducted exams on Victor Osimhen. We found a moderate sprain (tension and bleeding) in his ankle ligaments, and treatment has begun to help him get back on the field quickly,” Dr. Slim announced in a statement on the club's website.
On Saturday, Cyriel Dessers took Osimhen's place, but he wasn't as impactful against Rwanda as Osimhen had been.
Tolu Arokodare, who came on in the second half, scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute, keeping Nigeria's hopes for the 2026 World Cup alive.
It is uncertain whether Osimhen will be fit for his team’s league match against Eyüpspor on Saturday.
After a successful loan last season, Osimhen made a permanent move to Galatasaray from Napoli this summer for €75 million.
So far this season, he has scored two goals in three league matches, helping his team to lead the table with 12 points.
