Olivia Smith is about to make history as the first female footballer to be signed for a transfer fee of £1 million.

According to a source speaking to ESPN, Arsenal is on the brink of creating history in women’s football with a £1 million ($1.4 million) offer for Canadian forward Olivia Smith.
If the transfer is completed, Smith would be the first female player to be sold for a seven-figure sum, setting a new record worldwide.
This amount is set to exceed the previous record achieved in January when Chelsea acquired Naomi Girma for $1.1 million.
Sources indicate that the arrangement is currently awaiting the final agreement on personal terms; however, Arsenal is believed to have outpaced competitors Chelsea and Lyon to secure the talented 20-year-old. Smith notably earned the title of Liverpool’s Player of the Season for 2024–25, having netted nine goals across all competitions.
While Liverpool initially rejected interest from other teams, ESPN reports that they have now accepted Arsenal’s proposal.
Smith made her way to Liverpool from Sporting CP just last summer and has quickly become recognized as one of the game’s most promising young players.
This transfer fits within Arsenal’s larger plan to refresh their team following their recent victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and would mark Smith as the second Liverpool player to transfer to north London this summer, following Taylor Hinds' earlier move to the club on a free transfer.
