Soludo appoints new CMD for Ojukwu varsity teaching hospital
Anambra State's Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has given the green light for the appointment of Dr. Maureen Umeakuewulu to serve as the new Chief Medical Director for the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital located in Amaku, Anambra State.

As per a release from the governor's Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, which was made public on Friday, the new role is effective immediately.
The announcement stated, “Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has sanctioned the appointment of Dr. Maureen Umeakuewulu to take on the position of Chief Medical Director at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, situated in Amaku, Anambra State.
“Dr. Umeakuewulu is a highly regarded Nigerian medical professional and Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist specializing in gynaecologic oncology and women’s health at the National Hospital in Abuja.
“She possesses extensive clinical knowledge and experience, having worked at the National Hospital, Abuja, where she has greatly contributed to the enhancement of healthcare services in Nigeria.
“Dr. Umeakuewulu holds fellowships from the West African College of Surgeons, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the International College of Surgeons.”
In her capacity as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, Umeakuewulu concentrates on women’s reproductive health and gynaecologic oncology. She is actively engaged in research and advocacy pertaining to cervical cancer prevention, the vaccination against human papillomavirus, and various health matters concerning women.
Additionally, she has taken on leadership responsibilities within the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, having acted as the President for the Federal Capital Territory chapter, promoting heightened awareness and accessibility to screenings and treatments for diseases affecting women, including breast and cervical cancer.
Outside of her hospital duties, Umeakuewulu has participated in community health initiatives through programs like the Dona-Maureen Foundation, which has conducted medical outreach activities delivering free healthcare services to underprivileged communities in Anambra State.
Her efforts have aimed at enhancing access to reproductive health services, encouraging the early identification of cancers impacting women, and bolstering community education regarding gender-based violence and detrimental cultural practices.
