Gov Yusuf betrayed Kano people by returning power to APC – NNPP

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has expressed that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is profoundly disheartened by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s choice to switch allegiance to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
During an appearance on the Channels Television program, Politics Today, NNPP’s national spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, remarked that the governor’s switch signifies a significant breach of trust, not only with the party but also with the citizens of Kano State who overwhelmingly cast their votes for the NNPP.
Johnson elaborated that the sense of betrayal reaches further than just Kwankwaso, emphasizing that the residents of Kano who backed the party during the 2023 gubernatorial election feel equally let down.
“Indeed, he feels let down, but this encompasses more than Senator Kwankwaso. The people of Kano experienced what they call eight years of poor governance and turned out in large numbers to place their trust in the NNPP under Kwankwaso’s guidance,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the NNPP entered the election without a pre-established political structure within the state, yet still achieved success due to robust support from the grassroots level.
“We lacked councillors, we had no local government leaders, yet the electorate chose NNPP from the bottom up. They supported Abba Kabir Yusuf through the tribunal, the Court of Appeal, and even up to the Supreme Court,” he added.
Johnson asserted that Yusuf’s shift to the APC, conducted without any prior discussion with constituents, shows a lack of respect for the mandate received from the voters.
“Restoring power to the same party that was dismissed after eight years, without seeking input from the public, constitutes a breach of trust, regardless of how it is framed,” Johnson concluded.
