Senator David Mark, who serves as the Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has voiced concerns regarding alleged strategies by the present government to undermine the party’s momentum through legal means.
This warning was given in Abuja during a gathering with the National Legal Support Group of the ADC, headed by Abdullahi Abdurrahman.
Abdurrahman revealed that over 310 lawyers have stepped up to represent the party in all current and future legal matters throughout Nigeria.
He mentioned that the legal team has established representation in every state as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and is fully prepared to face any legal issues that may arise for the ADC.
The legal group features notable individuals, including Barrister Peter Oyewole, the ADC's Legal Adviser; Abubakar Malami (SAN), a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, ex-Governor of Edo State and a legal academic.
“We stand ready to address any legal challenges against ADC nationwide,” Abdurrahman asserted.
He noted that the lawyers have faith in the current leadership’s capability to revitalize the party and significantly contribute to the nation’s development.
Abdurrahman commended Senator Mark's integrity and encouraged him to utilize his experience to steer the ADC toward national relevance. He also urged the party’s Legal Adviser to provide essential documents and updates on legal issues for the team’s effectiveness.
Barrister Oyewole responded by confirming that all necessary legal procedures regarding the recent coalition that formed the new ADC were meticulously followed.
“There is no reason for concern,” he said. However, Senator Mark expressed his worries regarding possible legal challenges.
“The ADC is the party to watch for the 2027 elections. The current administration may try to use the courts to hinder our progress,” he cautioned.
He called on Nigerians to back the ADC as a trustworthy and patriotic option for ushering the country into a positive future.
Mark also praised the legal team for their commitment and advised them to stay vigilant and proactive as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections.
With an expanding grassroots network and a solid legal foundation, the ADC asserts it is poised to uphold its vision and participate actively in the 2027 political race.
