Defections: If PDP dies, another party will show up — Ben Murray-Bruce

Murray-Bruce expressed this sentiment on Thursday during a discussion on Arise Television’s Prime Time, after he switched his allegiance to the APC.
His comments followed the recent departures of governors from the PDP, specifically Douye Diri from Bayelsa State and Peter Mbah from Enugu State, both of whom aligned with the ruling party this week.
The former legislator suggested that the fall of the PDP should not be interpreted as the end of democracy or alternative political dynamics in the nation.
“Destruction paves the way for new entities to arise. Other political parties will form. They may not bear the name PDP, but opposition will remain. So if the PDP perishes, it does indeed perish. Someone will fill the void. There will definitely be a successor,” he asserted.
He is confident that Nigeria's political environment ensures the emergence of other groups that will contest against the ruling party.
“Opposition will exist, and elections will take place. There are individuals prepared to challenge the president, leading to a very competitive election. It will be extremely challenging,” he noted.
Murray-Bruce rejected concerns that the migration of prominent individuals from the PDP to the APC could lead to a single-party dominance. He contended that even though the PDP might be “in bad shape,” it does not signify the failure of Nigeria’s democratic framework.
“Do not assume that because the PDP is in a weakened state, the democratic process is finished. It may feel that way, and many may think so, but a new leader will rise, providing substantial opposition,” he stated.
Emphasizing important individuals who could remain influential in the political arena, the former senator asserted, “Peter Obi is still active. Kwankwaso is still in the game. Atiku is still a factor, so there will undoubtedly be opposition.”
