The Labour Party (LP), led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has expressed serious concerns regarding the mistreatment of its leaders by security forces. This situation arises from a “malicious petition” allegedly created by one Abayomi Arabambi, who falsely claims to be the party’s spokesperson.
This information was shared in a statement released by Ken Asogwa, the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the LP’s Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, in Abuja on Wednesday.
As stated by the party, Arabambi, in his petition, accused prominent Labour Party figures of planning to violently overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The statement included the following: “In his petition, Arabambi alleged that key Labour Party leaders, such as Mr. Peter Obi, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Senator Victor Umeh, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko, are conspiring to overthrow the Bola Tinubu government by organizing a ‘One Million Man March.’”
He also claimed that this protest, set for today, July 30, 2025, aims to reclaim the former national secretariat of the party, which is currently held by the former chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, in Utako, Abuja.
“We want to make it perfectly clear: the Labour Party leadership knows nothing of any planned protests in Nigeria involving the party,” the statement emphasized.
“We have not given permission to any person or group to march in an attempt to reclaim property the party has long since left behind.
“As a law-abiding party, following the Supreme Court decision on April 4, 2025, that recognized Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership, we have officially informed the appropriate law enforcement agencies, asking them to enforce the ruling by removing the unauthorized occupants of the former secretariat.
“Sadly, due to the inaction of these agencies, the party has been compelled to move to a new, safer location. Since that time, we have focused solely on our primary objectives.
“It is therefore absurd and highly questionable for anyone to suggest that the Labour Party plans to forcibly take back a building that it no longer occupies.”
