NEC meeting: PDP looking good, nothing wrong with party — Pearse
On Friday, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, stated that the results from the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting showed that the party is in good condition.

On Friday, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, stated that the results from the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting showed that the party is in good condition.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Pearse, who previously served on the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and is the organizer of the Reset Lagos PDP group, shared these views on Friday in Lagos.
NAN reported that the PDP NEC meeting concluded well on Thursday in Abuja, setting the national elective convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
In response to the meeting’s success, Pearse noted that it signifies that the PDP is ready to reclaim its influential role in the country's political arena.
“There is nothing wrong with the PDP. Unlike many other political parties, we do not face serious challenges. Our foundation is very solid.
“Like any marriage, some issues might arise that need attention. But if you leave, you might face greater troubles in a new relationship, potentially leading to disaster.
“After our NEC meeting, the evidence clearly shows that the PDP is strong. We operate as true Democrats; our leaders are elected, not appointed like in some other parties.
“The PDP is progressing, and all is well. We are in a strong position. Our party is already on the rise. Those departing from PDP are simply confused and have made a poor decision. Our party is good and back in shape,” Pearse said.
He further mentioned that the party leaders’ choice to allocate the PDP’s presidential ticket to the South for the 2027 election is a significant factor.
“This is the only strategy to challenge the current President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he added.
Pearse dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which some opposition leaders are considering for 2027, expressing doubt about its success in the upcoming elections.
Pearse expressed that those who transitioned from PDP to ADC would likely come to see their choices as errors and would return to the main opposition party.
Regarding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's departure from PDP, Pearse noted that the former vice president was harming his political future by frequently changing parties.
“While Atiku is expected to win the ADC primary and secure the presidential nomination, he won't succeed in the presidential election with that party,” Pearse stated.
He emphasized that the former vice president often misjudges his decisions, stating, “His current actions are tarnishing his political reputation.”
Furthermore, he mentioned that Abubakar’s departure would not impact the PDP in any significant manner.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the former ruling party wrapped up its 101st NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
This meeting, attended by key party leaders, focused on important issues, internal changes, and strategic planning for the upcoming 2027 general election. (NAN)
