Nigeria's packaging sector generates $2.5 billion.

The manufacturing industry in Nigeria is considered essential, with recent statistics indicating that the packaging market alone is valued at N2.5 billion.
At the 12th edition of Propak West Africa, a major trade event focused on packaging, plastics, printing, and processing, George Pearson, Regional Director of Montgomery Group, highlighted that Nigeria's packaging sector is now worth $2.5 billion, expecting an annual growth of about 5 percent.
According to him, “Recent GDP data reveals that the packaging industry accounts for 10 percent of Nigeria’s economy, underscoring the importance of the manufacturing sector.”
He also noted that Nigeria’s manufacturing sector contributes a strong 9.6 percent to GDP, showing resilience even amidst global challenges. The economy continues to demonstrate positive growth and stability.
A key factor behind this resilience, he explained, is the emphasis on local sourcing.
“It’s encouraging to see that numerous factories are sourcing over 50 percent of their materials locally.
“This approach reduces supply chain lengths, enhances control over quality, and significantly increases adherence to international standards—a crucial aspect for competing globally. The goal is not only to meet these standards but to establish them. West Africa has the potential to become a premier supplier of quality, sustainable packaging for the region.
“This development is the reason for Propak’s existence. We aspire to be the foremost platform in West Africa for fostering progress in these critical industries.
“Our aim is to foster Nigeria’s and the region’s industrial growth by linking people, ideas, and technology.”
In a separate comment, Segun Alabi, Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, said they are fully committed to their mission. “We are dedicated to engaging with our members to highlight the significance of sustainability, especially regarding their energy sources.
“We prioritize alternative energy sources and guarantee that they are environmentally friendly with no adverse effects on the public. We encourage our members to utilize solar energy and provide them with the necessary resources to maximize the efficiency and capacity of their factories.”
