Spokesman claims that 'rogue elements' leaked Atiku's resignation letter from the PDP.
Paul Ibe, who serves as a media adviser for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, claimed that Atiku’s resignation letter from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not meant to be public but was intentionally leaked by political rivals.

Paul Ibe, who serves as a media adviser for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, claimed that Atiku’s resignation letter from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not meant to be public but was intentionally leaked by political rivals.
During an interview on Arise News Wednesday night, Ibe mentioned that the letter, dated July 14, 2025, was distributed by certain members of the PDP and their counterparts in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to damage Atiku’s political reputation.
He pointed out that the timing of the leak coincided with the day after the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari, suggesting it was planned to create controversy and distract the nation’s focus.
Ibe remarked, “We find ourselves in this situation because individuals who do not support His Excellency Atiku Abubakar released a private communication of his. Indeed, it was leaked.
“This act was orchestrated by misguided individuals within the PDP in collaboration with some APC members,” he alleged.
“How can anyone claim to know the reasons for his resignation? Are they fortune tellers? I would prefer we discuss other matters since the nation is still grieving, with memories of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who was just laid to rest yesterday, still vivid,” he continued.
It is worth noting that Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, criticized Atiku for making his resignation public during a period of national mourning, labeling the action as inconsiderate.
Keyamo further criticized Atiku for using letterhead featuring the Nigerian coat of arms, arguing that since the former vice president is no longer a government official, he should not represent correspondence in such a way.
In response to Keyamo’s remarks, Ibe urged the minister to concentrate on addressing the pressing issues in Nigeria’s aviation industry instead of politicizing a personal letter that was never meant for public eyes.
“It is regrettable that the Minister of Aviation, who should be focused on significant airport issues and improving infrastructure, has involved himself in this matter as if he knew the cause of a crash before any investigation,” Ibe stated.
In his resignation letter, dated July 14, 2025, Atiku cited irreconcilable differences and disappointment with the party's shift away from its foundational principles as his reasons for leaving the PDP.
