Former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed yesterday that the political environment in Nigeria is rife with deceit and betrayal.
He made this remark in Benin City, Edo State, at the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, who was both his Chief of Staff and the former deputy governor of Edo State. The event was attended by numerous notable figures, such as former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, and Ibrahim Dakwambo from Gombe State, among others.
Jonathan described Oghiadomhe as a trustworthy ally. "When I became president, Mike was one of the few friends willing to stand by me, even after my presidency. In Nigerian politics, betrayal is common.
“It’s challenging to find someone who remains consistent in their words throughout the day. I have faced many instances of betrayal, particularly during the 2015 elections, but Mike is someone who would risk his life for me.”
Additionally, the deputy governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, who stood in for Governor Monday Okpebholo, remarked that the foundation he built during his time as deputy is still being followed today. Lucky Igbinedion noted that he trusted Oghiadomhe completely when he passed on the responsibilities of the state to him while traveling abroad.
Oshiomhole mentioned that whenever they talked about politics, he assured Oghiadomhe that he would always support Jonathan. He also praised his wife, Lousia, for being a supportive partner.
