State Chairpersons of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have expressed their support for the removal of the National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with two other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) due to serious accusations of significant financial wrongdoing, misappropriation of funds, mismanagement, and the redirection of party finances.

In a statement released on Friday, Femi Olaniyi, who leads the forum and is also the Lagos State Chapter chairman, indicated that the expulsion of these prominent party officials is a pivotal moment for the organization.
He particularly highlighted that the exit of Shehu Gabam at this important juncture symbolizes a triumph of virtue over malevolence, asserting that the duration he served as national chairman will not fade from historical memory.
Olaniyi remarked, “The exit of Shehu Gabam at this significant time signifies a triumph of virtue against evil. History will not forget the time he spent in the role of national chairman.”
“With absolute conviction, Gabam has negatively impacted the political progression of the Social Democratic Party.”
“At this moment, the group of Social Democratic Party state chairpersons wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the National Working Committee for their effort in expelling Shehu Gabam and others. It is refreshing to put an end to such a harmful presence.”
“Congratulations to all of our members nationwide and to the party leadership for taking this courageous action to safeguard the party from irresponsible practices and mischief.”
It should be noted that the turmoil affecting the SDP reached a new level on Thursday when the National Working Committee (NWC) expelled key officials, including the former National Chairman, Gabam, and the National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, due to accusations of misconduct, financial mismanagement, and misuse of power.
This decision was made on Thursday in Abuja after the NWC meeting, following several months of investigation and disciplinary measures.
While addressing the media at the party's National Secretariat, the National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, outlined that this action was in accordance with the accepted report of the Disciplinary Committee and a resulting white paper that reviewed the findings and suggestions concerning the allegations against the implicated officials.
As per his statement, those who were dismissed and expelled include Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam – Former National Chairman (dismissed and expelled) and Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu – Former National Youth Leader (dismissed and expelled).
Additionally, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi – Former National Auditor (relieved of duties following voluntary resignation) along with eight other individuals — Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu — were implicated for alleged disloyalty and unauthorized access to the party's national secretariat on July 28, 2025.
