In recent days, the direction of Victor Osimhen’s anticipated departure from Napoli has changed. Ongoing discussions are taking place between Napoli, his parent club, and Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray, where he was on loan last season
Osimhen has given his approval for a permanent transfer to Turkey, and both teams have tentatively agreed on a €75 million release clause. However, negotiations have stalled regarding the payment structure.
The release clause for the 26-year-old will expire on Tuesday. If a club does not meet the required fee, Napoli will regain control over the asking price for the striker.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Sunday about the situation.
“Today, new talks began concerning the Osimhen transfer as we approach a critical week. Presently, Galatasaray’s offer stands at €40 million, followed by two instalments of €17.5 million each.
“Napoli is open to this offer but demands adjusted payment conditions along with bank guarantees.”
Since last week, the needed bank guarantees have caused problems as Napoli and Galatasaray work toward a resolution in this matter. As of last week, Napoli was willing to allow Galatasaray to spread the payments over five instalments, provided there were adequate guarantees regarding the total amount.
However, their discussions faced serious setbacks due to the absence of a trustworthy bank guarantee. This led Napoli to pause negotiations, resulting in Galatasaray’s revised proposal of €40 million plus two instalments of €17.5 million.
According to Sports Digitale from Turkey, Napoli is also concerned given past issues with Galatasaray, particularly the delayed payments for the transfers of Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili back in 2014.
In the meantime, Osimhen has declined the opportunity to return to Napoli after also rejecting a move to Saudi Arabia.
The Nigerian forward had a successful season on loan at Galatasaray last year, netting 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 competitive matches.
The next few days are pivotal. If Galatasaray can meet Napoli's guarantee requirements, the deal could be finalized swiftly.
However, if delays persist, Napoli may start considering other offers.
