Candidates associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North have voiced their disapproval of the party primaries that were allegedly held at a venue where no formal congress occurred.
This was expressed in a statement sent to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, which was signed by six of the ten candidates and shared with the media on Monday.
The statement, bearing the signatures of Olaleye Segun (Ward 11), Lapade Idris (Ward 5), Farouk Arisekola (Ward 5), Adekunle Oladeji (Ward 10), Saheed Aderounmu (Ward 8), and Khalil Mustapha (Ward 5), was also shared with President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Executives, the National Working Committee, and the Delegates Congress Committee.
Moreover, it was circulated to the State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, Oyo APC Executives, the State Working Committee, INEC, party members, and all interested parties in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The candidates expressed their worries about the lack of a delegates' congress, which they believe is essential for valid primaries to be held.
They pointed out the violation of party regulations and electoral standards, labeling any results from the so-called primary as illegal, invalid, and unacceptable.
The disappointed candidates emphasized that the leadership of the APC in Ibadan North shared their viewpoint, urging the public to dismiss any assertions regarding the alleged primary.
Additionally, they requested the APC National Working Committee to prioritize internal democracy by facilitating credible elections.
The candidates reiterated their commitment to the party and requested immediate action to conduct an open, inclusive, and constitutionally valid primary election in Ibadan North.
They stressed the importance of fairness and transparency in the upcoming constituency by-election, urging all involved to focus on internal democracy and justice to rebuild trust among party supporters in the federal constituency. (NAN)
