Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, Aduku mentioned that the time spent in the training camp has been fruitful, highlighting that all selected players arrived punctually and engaged positively in the practice sessions.
He noted that the coaching staff has concentrated on strategic planning, fostering team unity, and developing an overarching game plan, while also indicating that the players have shown dedication, self-control, and high energy throughout their preparation.
“The focus of the team is on the upcoming qualifying match,” Aduku stated, underlining the significance of achieving a good result in the initial home match.
He further mentioned that the exhibition matches conducted during the preparation phase were beneficial for evaluating and enhancing the team's style of play, especially in increasing offensive tactics while ensuring defensive stability. He characterized the team’s displays in these warm-up matches as promising.
According to NAN, Nigeria will play the first leg of the matchup at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on February 7, with the second leg occurring on February 14 in Dakar, Senegal.
The Falconets, who have earned silver medals twice at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and reached the semi-finals in Japan fourteen years ago, are scheduled to arrive in Ibadan on January 27 to further their preparations for the competition.
While choosing not to forecast outcomes, Aduku conveyed his faith in the skill and mindset of the players, referencing their competitive performances in recent friendly matches. He reiterated the team's resolve to bring pride to the nation and achieve qualification for the World Cup.
The victor of the Nigeria–Senegal match will proceed to the final stage of the African qualification series, where they will compete against the winner of the Guinea-Bissau versus Malawi matchup for one of Africa's four spots in the tournament.
The 12th edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals is set to take place in Poland from September 5 to September 27.
