Police Recruitment: PSC Dismiss Viral Screening, Posting Notice
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has rejected a widely circulated press release claiming that new recruits for the Nigeria Police Force would solely be assigned to their home states under an alleged State Police Act 2026.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has rejected a widely circulated press release claiming that new recruits for the Nigeria Police Force would solely be assigned to their home states under an alleged State Police Act 2026.
The commission labeled the document as fraudulent and cautioned applicants and the general public to avoid trusting information that comes from sources not verified by its official communication channels.
In a disclaimer released today (Friday) and signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, the PSC's Head of Protocol and Public Relations, it stated that the information circulating on social media was created by scammers.
News reports that the contentious announcement also stated that a medical screening would take place between July 16 and 22, and that a portal would open on July 14 for candidates to download their medical screening slips.
Nonetheless, the commission clarified that none of the assertions made in the document were generated by the PSC.
“This press release is fraudulent and was not issued by the Police Service Commission,” the statement indicated.
“The mentioned publication, which also refers to a supposed ‘State Police’ Act 2026 and assignments to states of origin, is the creation of scammers and should be entirely ignored.”
The commission noted that it convened a meeting with stakeholders on Thursday, July 9, to discuss matters related to the current recruitment process for the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC stated that the meeting included representatives from the commission, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Character Commission, and the Ministry of Police Affairs.
Discussions during the meeting centered on the recruitment procedure and the actions to be taken in the subsequent phase of the exercise.
The commission further stated that an official announcement would follow once the results of the meeting had been thoroughly assessed.
“The Commission will provide an official statement in due time regarding the meeting’s outcomes and the next stage of the recruitment process for the Nigeria Police Force. All candidates and the public are encouraged to wait for this formal communication,” it emphasized.
The PSC urged applicants to seek recruitment information exclusively from its official website, recruitment portal, verified social media accounts, and recognized email addresses.
It cautioned that unverified posts on social media and unofficial documents could put candidates at risk of fraud and incorrect information.
The commission also advised applicants not to follow dates, instructions, or directives that had not been officially declared through its sanctioned platforms.
The PSC reiterated that the recruitment process for the Nigeria Police Force is cost-free and that applicants should not be required to pay at any stage.
“Recruitment is without charge. The Commission does not impose any fees at any point in this process,” the statement continued.
“Candidates are strongly encouraged to steer clear of misinformation and to depend solely on official communications from the PSC.”
The commission additionally warned individuals disseminating false recruitment documents or attempting to defraud applicants that they would face legal consequences.
“Those discovered distributing false press releases or partaking in deceitful actions will encounter harsh legal repercussions,” it stated.
The PSC encouraged applicants to be patient and to wait for its formal announcement regarding the results of the stakeholders’ meeting and the subsequent phase of the hiring process.
