Inter Lagos FC is set to participate in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the upcoming season after securing promotion on Monday evening in Lagos.
The team affirmed their place in the league following a 1-1 tie against Smart City FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. This outcome guaranteed their top spot in Conference A of the Nigeria National League (NNL) with a total of 29 points gathered from 15 games.
With this promotion, the total number of teams from Lagos in the NPFL may increase to two, joining Ikorodu City FC, which is already playing in the top tier at the same venue.
The NNL had announced that the champions of the four conferences would gain promotion. Inter Lagos secured their advancement with one match left to play, becoming the second team to be promoted this season after Doma United FC. An additional two teams will finalize the group ahead of the next season.
Focus now shifts to the Super 4 playoffs in Ikenne, where the four newly promoted teams will compete for the NNL championship once the regular season concludes.
Inter Lagos, established in 2023 and hosting matches in Lagos, has rapidly developed a passionate supporter base that has bolstered their promotion efforts.
Club chairman Lanre Vigo found it difficult to contain his feelings after the final whistle.
“I cannot express it in words. I continually recall the very first day we initiated this football club, and now look at where we are,” he stated following Monday’s match.
“We are committed to providing quality football, enjoying the experience, and ensuring we remain in the league.”
