Super Eagles leader Wilfred Ndidi has experienced the loss of his father, Sunday Ndidi.
Sunday Ndidi died on Tuesday following a traffic incident.
The former military officer was involved in a collision in Umunede, Delta State. He was transported to a medical facility in Agbor, also located in Delta State, where doctors later declared him deceased.
This unfortunate news was communicated on Tuesday by Besiktas, the club where Ndidi currently plays in Turkey.
The club conveyed their profound sorrow upon hearing about the untimely demise of the father of their significant midfielder.
"May Allah grant mercy to the departed. We extend our sincere sympathies to our player Wilfred Ndidi, his relatives, and all those close to him," the club stated in a message on X.
Ndidi succeeded Williams Troost-Ekong as the captain of the Super Eagles and recently guided Nigeria to a third-place finish in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, where he also achieved his inaugural goal for the national team during the competition.
Ndidi had also mentioned his father and shared his admiration for former Nigeria captain Kanu Nwankwo when describing his goal celebration against Tunisia.
