Former defender for Real Madrid and Spain, Sergio Ramos, is said to be on the verge of purchasing his childhood club, Sevilla, in collaboration with the investment group Five Eleven Capital, as reported by Spanish news outlets on Tuesday.
The anticipated agreement, estimated to be around 400 million euros (£347 million), would grant the consortium an 80 percent ownership, with shares projected to be worth 3,500 euros each, according to El Pais.
For the deal to proceed, it must receive the green light from La Liga and the Spanish National Sports Council.
The club from Andalusia has been a stable participant in La Liga since the 2001-02 season and is currently facing a struggle to avoid relegation.
Despite clinching the Europa League title in 2022-23, Sevilla currently ranks 13th in Spain’s premier league, only three points clear of the relegation zone with three matches left, reminiscent of the previous season’s tight escape where they concluded at 17th place.

At 40 years old, Ramos commenced his youth football journey at Sevilla prior to his transition to Real Madrid in 2005, where he accumulated 22 major titles over a 16-year tenure with the team.
He achieved five La Liga championships and four Champions League victories with Los Blancos while also securing the Club World Cup four times.
Ramos played a pivotal role for Real Madrid during their three consecutive Champions League titles won from 2016 to 2018.
A World Cup champion in 2010 and a two-time European titleholder in 2008 and 2012 with Spain, Ramos made a return to Sevilla for one season in 2023 after spending two years at PSG.
His most recent appearances were with Mexican team Monterrey before he departed as a free agent earlier this year. He has yet to officially declare his retirement, having ended his international career in 2023.
Ramos achieved an impressive 180 appearances for Spain and netted 23 goals for his national team, a remarkable achievement given that he primarily played as a centre-back throughout his international career.
Reuters has reached out to Sevilla and Five Eleven Capital for their response.
