Why we dissolved Akwa Ibom PDP executives – Ologunagba

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the choice to disband its executive members in Akwa Ibom State was essential to safeguard its interests and conform to national guidance.
Debo Ologunagba, who serves as the national publicity secretary for the PDP, shared this information during an interview on Thursday's Politics Today segment on Channels Television.
He claimed that the executives who were dissolved were no longer operating autonomously and had instead been swayed by Governor Umo Eno, who shifted his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In Akwa Ibom State, the governor has departed. There appears to be no clear line between the state executives and their connection to the All Progressives Congress at both the party level and within the national working committee,” Ologunagba noted.
He referenced Section 10, sub-section 6 of the PDP's constitution, which forbids members from linking with other political groups in ways that could weaken the party.
“No party member shall associate with external parties or factions to jeopardize the party or its chosen administrations. Being part of two parties is completely unacceptable,” he clarified.
Ologunagba asserted that the party could not ignore Governor Eno’s statement about planning to “supervise both parties,” deeming it as “intolerable and detrimental to the PDP.”
On Tuesday, the PDP revealed that it had disbanded its organizational structures in Akwa Ibom, appointing a caretaker committee led by Igwa Umoren. Borono Bassey, a past state publicity secretary, was chosen as the committee’s secretary to manage administrative and communication responsibilities.
This action follows four months after Eno's switch, which disrupted the PDP’s long-standing rule in Akwa Ibom State politics. Previously a bastion for the party, the state branch has faced turmoil since June, when Eno joined the APC, making him the second PDP governor in the South-South region to make such a transition recently, following Delta State's Sheriff Oborevwori.
Ologunagba indicated that the reorganization was vital to “restore order, reclaim authority, and avert additional decline” of the PDP’s influence in the state.
