I do not intend to suggest commissioners. Wike pledges to provide Fubara complete autonomy.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he does not plan to influence the selection of commissioners or any other officials in Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara takes on his responsibilities again after a six-month period of emergency governance.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he does not plan to influence the selection of commissioners or any other officials in Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara takes on his responsibilities again after a six-month period of emergency governance.
In a discussion on Politics Today, a program aired by Channels Television on Thursday, Wike emphasized that he will not impose any candidates on the governor, despite rumors connecting him to the political turmoil that affected the resource-rich state earlier this year.
“I cannot dictate anything to the governor. Why would I dictate anything to the governor?” Wike remarked.
“If I were to approach the governor and say, ‘I want this,’ would the state fall apart? I will not (recommend commissioners for the governor). I do not have a candidate, nor will I,” he asserted.
The former governor of Rivers mentioned that even if Fubara reached out for guidance, he would simply encourage him to lead autonomously.
Wike expressed that his main interest is ensuring that his successor continues the advancements he established.
“Even if the governor approaches me now and expresses, ‘we have decided we want to collaborate,’ which is normal, I would respond, ‘listen, I grant you full autonomy, you understand what’s required for the state,’” Wike explained.
“All I would emphasize is that I am aware of what I accomplished and how I managed to sustain progress at this level; do not let it slip away, but rather proceed forward. As I am speaking now, I left the state in a position where we can compete effectively with Lagos.”
Governor Fubara, who was suspended in March following a prolonged conflict with Wike, was supposed to return to his post on Thursday, but he did not appear at the Government House. Supporters who gathered in anticipation of his return later left.
In response, Wike noted there is no legal requirement for the governor to resume immediately.
“There is no legislation stating he must return to work today. He is the governor, and I find it perplexing how we function. “Just because I was inaugurated today as the governor does not mean I will go to the office tomorrow. You are unaware of my agenda, you have no knowledge of what the governor has planned, and you do not know his whereabouts,” he commented. “Just because I was inaugurated today as the governor does not mean I will go to the office tomorrow.
