The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has voiced disapproval of Governor Chukwuma Soludo's recent trip to meet with President Bola Tinubu in anticipation of the gubernatorial election slated for November 2025.
Okechukwu Modebe, the spokesperson for the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, released a statement labeling Soludo’s visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja as “the last kick of a dying horse,” asserting that it reflects a desperate attempt to boost his dwindling political stature.
"The latest display with the President doesn't erase four years of poor governance, a disconnect with the grassroots, and missteps in politics. Showcasing these meetings as endorsements is an affront to the intelligence of the voters in Anambra," the statement expressed.
Soludo, associated with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), met with Tinubu on Tuesday and offered his backing for the President’s re-election in 2027. Nonetheless, the APC claimed that the meeting was being misrepresented as a political endorsement that they believe "isn't real."
Modebe emphasized the APC's dedication to the upcoming governorship election and the August 16 senatorial re-run in Anambra South, describing their candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, as “a political iron-gate” who will highlight APGA’s diminishing popularity. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the elections are free and fair, warning that “the era of normalcy in Anambra politics has ended.”
In contrast, President Tinubu praised Soludo on a social media platform following the visit on Wednesday.
“It brought me joy to receive my friend of over twenty years, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, at the Aso Villa yesterday,” the President stated.
He mentioned that they talked about reforms in progress, security issues, and the importance of creating inclusive opportunities for young Nigerians.
"We firmly believe that all who advocate for progress must join forces to enhance our democracy, bolster security, and rejuvenate our economy. We will continue to invest faith in our beloved Nigeria, ensuring lasting and shared prosperity for the future," Tinubu added.
The governorship election in Anambra is set for November 8, 2025.
