Prosecution of officers implicated in the Onitsha market shooting is ordered by Soludo.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his belief that more governors will join the ruling party before the 2027 general election.

Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has ordered the prompt arrest of members from the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade (OCHA Brigade) implicated in the shooting incident at Emeka Offor Plaza in Onitsha Main Market.
He has mandated that the officers be turned over to the police for legal action, promising that those injured will receive full medical support.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by Law Mefor, the state’s Commissioner for Information.
The OCHA Brigade, which is a task force aimed at enforcing sanitation and environmental laws, has often been accused of harassment, extortion, and excessive violence.
The situation became tense on Tuesday when Brigade members allegedly fired their weapons during operations, causing panic in the busy market area. Reports from witnesses indicated that several people, including a pregnant woman, were hurt.
Mefor confirmed the incident, stating the government is aware of what occurred in Onitsha Main Market.
The statement mentioned: “We are thankful for the prompt response from the police, who have helped restore peace to the area. An investigation into this case is underway, and the government will take all necessary steps to avoid such incidents in the future.
“Unfortunately, one victim, Miss Chinwe Igwe, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Her body has been taken to the hospital morgue for an autopsy and preservation. The other injured individuals are receiving treatment and are improving.
“Additionally, the Governor has instructed that the suspects be arrested and handed over to authorities for prosecution, ensuring that medical care for the injured will be provided.
“Currently, the police have reinstated order in the area, and law enforcement continues to patrol and monitor to maintain lasting peace.”
