In anticipation of the 2027 election, more governors will join the APC—Yilwatda
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his belief that more governors will join the ruling party before the 2027 general election.

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his belief that more governors will join the ruling party before the 2027 general election.
At the 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting for the Bayelsa State chapter held on Tuesday in Yenagoa, Yilwatda, represented by Chief Emma Eneukwu, the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), highlighted that the president’s achievements are drawing in opposition figures.
“There is still room for more governors and important individuals, including senators and House members, to join our party. This is because of the character and effectiveness of our president,” Yilwatda stated.
Recently, Governor Sheriff Oborevwore of Delta State and Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC to support President Tinubu’s candidacy for re-election.
In response to rival parties, Yilwatda compared the president to a lion that is undistracted.
“While others are busy trying to compete with the president for the 2027 election, remember, a lion ignores the barking of small animals and continues on its path,” he explained.
He commended the South-South governors for their “realism and understanding,” suggesting that their move to join the APC highlights the president’s leadership skills.
“They are departing their previous parties to back Mr. President for an overwhelming win in 2027, which will make governance smoother as we head into that year,” he continued.
Yilwatda called on APC members in Bayelsa to stay united for success in 2027. Meanwhile, former Bayelsa State Governor Chief Timipre Sylva also emphasized the party's unity in the state as election preparations ramp up.
