Key figures within the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State gathered in Abuja on Thursday for a meeting aimed at strategizing how to reclaim the state from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.
Attendees at the meeting included Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; former state Governor and recent National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje; ex-governor and Senator, Kabiru Gaya; Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Ismaila; Hon. Abba Bichi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation; Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; Senator Basheer Lado; State Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas; Commander Murtala, Ibrahim Zakari; Hon. Alhassan Kabiru; Shaban Ibrahim Sharda; Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso; and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz.
After the meeting, Ganduje stated that important APC members from Kano gathered to review the party's situation and expressed their unwavering support for the President, emphasizing their commitment to APC's objectives in the state.
He mentioned that APC in Kano remains strong, despite a series of defections by notable political figures from other parties.
He credited this success to President Tinubu’s supportive initiatives for Kano, saying, “We are grateful for his reforms and commendable efforts benefiting the nation, Kano, and the appointments made for the citizens of Kano.
“As everyone knows, we nearly succeeded in the last election, but we ultimately were not victorious. However, since that time, our party has remained united, and due to the President's policies, we have drawn in significant personalities from rival parties. We currently have a serving Senator, Ismaila Kawu, active House of Representatives members, a former speaker of the Kano State Assembly, and previous state legislators. Numerous members of the State Assembly have joined us, including commissioners and the Secretary to the State Government, who transitioned from the NNPP to our party.
“We are committed to putting in the necessary effort to ensure our triumph in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Kano State.
“Our goal is to formulate strategies that will motivate our constituents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration CVR process. Currently, we are performing admirably. Our members will register, and come election time, we will mobilize in large groups to secure victory. We assure you of the steadfastness of our party in Kano State, which will persist," he concluded.
Senator Jibrin remarked that the meeting acknowledged the numerous appointments the president has provided to the people of Kano and the various projects initiated in both the state and the broader Northern region.
He added that stakeholders assessed the strength of APC in Kano State and reached the conclusion that the party is well-positioned for the 2027 general elections.
