Veteran Nigerian performer Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely recognized for his role as the cherished “Papa Ajasco” in the enduring family comedy, has openly discussed the profound financial difficulties and restrictions in his career that he has encountered over the years.
In a heartfelt conversation with social media influencer, Lucky Udu, Ayoyinka shared that the “Papa Ajasco” character has been trademarked and secured by the production company, which significantly limits his capacity to utilize the role for personal endeavors, promotions, advertisements, or public engagements.
“That specific character has been legally registered,” he remarked. “Whenever anyone wants to feature me, they intend to do so in connection with the character along with everything related to me. However, my journey has not been simple. That is why you won’t find me in commercials or on billboards. It causes me distress.”
He further mentioned that he does not possess exclusive rights to the character, necessitating him to request authorization even to mention it in a commercial context.
“I lack the rights. I cannot utilize the name unless I seek permission,” Ayoyinka expressed. “As a result, I face numerous limitations in my opportunities.”
The actor, who revealed that he left his civil service job with the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture five years prior, characterized his life after retirement as particularly challenging.
“Conditions have never improved,” he shared with his interviewer. “There is no vehicle in my household, no personal residence. I do not own a car.”
Ayoyinka made a direct appeal to his supporters and the general public, seizing the interview as a platform to convey his present circumstances.
