‘Many Northern Millionaires, Politicians Don’t Believe In Kannywood’ – Uzee Usman

Nollywood actor Uzee Usman has expressed that progress within the Kannywood sector, which is Nigeria's Hausa-language film industry, has been hindered because affluent northerners and politicians are hesitant to support it financially.

According to Naija News, during a recent appearance on 'The Morayo Show,' Usman emphasized that Kannywood possesses a rich tradition of storytelling and a significant legacy.

The film star highlighted that the main barrier to Kannywood's advancement is the lack of financial backing and investment.

He stated, “Even though it has existed for some time and tells great stories, I believe the biggest challenge facing Kannywood is the scarcity of funding and investment.

“Many wealthy northerners and politicians do not truly invest in or support the entertainment sector like their counterparts in the South (Nollywood) do.”

In other developments, Uzee Usman has shared insights about his connection with his seasoned colleague Funke Akindele and his experiences while working on the film 'A Tribe Called Judah'.

In an interview with Legit, the actor mentioned that portraying 'Adamu' in the film was among the most difficult roles he has undertaken in the industry.

Nonetheless, he noted that Funke made the task of interpreting the role easier for the cast.

He remarked, “This is one of the toughest roles I have ever taken on, though Funke, as our director, made it simpler for us since we were enjoying ourselves while working. She assisted us in delivering our performances.”

Regarding his rapport with Funke, Usman commented, “I was acquainted with her prior to the shooting of A Tribe Called Judah, but our relationship wasn't close. She is someone who values people and communicates with them respectfully. After we completed the film, we developed a strong bond, and I admire her greatly due to her kindness towards those around her.”
