For several days, the Nollywood icon Funke Akindele has been the center of attention on social media, not due to a recent accolade, glamorous outfit, or trending dance, but because of her appearance with a notably curvy form, which led many to question if she had secretly had cosmetic enhancements.
Clips displaying the actress showcasing her exaggerated curves and fuller figure became widely shared throughout the week, causing fans to do a double take.
In one Instagram video, Akindele confidently flaunted her new appearance, stirring rumors that she had joined the ranks of celebrities opting for body modifications.
However, the actress is merely portraying a role.
Within the footage, Akindele appears wearing a stylish and simple ensemble, walking with pride as she highlights her modified physique.
“Greetings, wonderful individuals. I am Adetutu Fernandez. Are you fond of my body? I would invest anything to attain beauty. It cost me a lot to have my body enhanced,” she stated.
The so-called “transformation” is a component of an intricate marketing strategy for her upcoming film, Behind The Scenes, where she takes on the role of Adetutu Fernandez, a character she describes as a woman with “the figure of a goddess.”
While her change initially tricked a number of people, Akindele has played along with the humor as she intensifies the promotion for the film.
In another update, she posted, “Adetutu Fernandez truly possesses the body of a goddess. Notice if you like her shape.”
As part of the lead-up to the film's premiere, Akindele revealed her impressive cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Wandi and Handi, Uche Montana, Tobi Bakare, Ini Dima, Mr Macaroni, Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Chatta, and Iyabo Ojo, showcased in a themed runway video.
The humorous portrayal of her enhanced figure has also triggered a flurry of responses from fellow industry members who joined in on the amusement.
Actor Deyemi commented, “This one is the Akowonjo BBL!”
Mo Bimpe playfully teased, “Mama! You have such hips.”
Bisola remarked, “Aunty Funke, these curves are making a statement.”
Blessing Obasi added, “The hips are flowing like water.”
Broda Shaggi joked, “Hot off the operating table from Doctor Shaggi and Nurse Kiekie. Please tag us, ma’am, so others can come to us. The finest BBL in Lagos.”
Janemena chimed in, “This hip is extra curvy, momma.”
