The star of "Black Panther," Chadwick Boseman, was honored posthumously on Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Ryan Coogler, who directed Boseman in the successful 2018 film, along with actress Viola Davis and Boseman’s wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, took the lead in the heartfelt event held in Tinseltown.
“Today was a wonderful day,” Ledward-Boseman expressed to AFP.
“Everyone was filled with love and happiness. We are all so proud of the person we knew and shared moments with.”
Coogler recalled Boseman as a person of immense generosity.
“Even while he was aware that his time was limited, he remained dedicated to the art. He continued to immerse himself fully in his work,” he remarked.
Chadwick Boseman started his professional journey in theater and television before transitioning to film.
His most iconic role, T’Challa/Black Panther, made its debut in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016).
He reprised this role two years later in the massively successful independent film “Black Panther,” becoming the first Black actor to star as a lead in the expansive Marvel universe.
Boseman passed away in 2020 at the young age of 43 after battling colon cancer for four years.
Despite the challenging illness, he did not let it hinder his filmmaking or his dedication to his art, Coogler noted.
“Regardless of what he was enduring, he insisted on performing his own stunts and was present for off-camera dialogue readings. It was remarkable.”
Viola Davis, who acted alongside him in the 2020 film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” his final project, stated that Boseman’s portrayal “reminded us that we are not alone.”
“That was Chadwick, who was more than an actor observed performing excellently on screen.”
Disney's CEO Bob Iger, actor Michael B. Jordan, and Boseman's brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman, were also present at the event.
