Tinubu has cornered INEC, security agencies, judiciary – Lawyer laments

A legal professional based in Kaduna, Al-zubayr Abubakar, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu has taken control of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, along with the security services and the judiciary.

Abubakar shared this assertion during a discussion with JKD TV, a television station in Kaduna.

He contended that no leader, not even during periods of military rule and oppression, has governed with the same approach as Tinubu does now, claiming that judges who are meant to uphold justice have all succumbed to his power.

The attorney further expressed concern that all security agencies in Nigeria have oriented themselves towards serving Tinubu instead of the nation.

He remarked that the President has rendered INEC ineffective and completely under his authority, emphasizing that this is the reason opposition parties continuously find themselves facing ongoing challenges.

The attorney commented, “At this moment, all security agencies in Nigeria operate on behalf of Tinubu rather than serving the country. If I were to speak derogatorily about Tinubu right now, you would instantly see the DSS and the police; they wouldn’t bother to interrogate you, they would merely assert that you have insulted the nation. Does that mean Tinubu is the nation?

“To make matters even worse, judges, who are meant to dispense justice, have all fallen under his sway. So if you have a legal dispute, can you honestly feel secure taking it to court? How can the police provide fair treatment to opposition parties?

“How can it be anticipated that INEC will act with impartiality? Consider what transpired with the PDP. The Supreme Court issued a ruling against the Wike faction, yet INEC still acknowledges and collaborates with that faction. Under these conditions, how can Nigerians trust that INEC will manage a transparent and equitable election?”
