A past Minister of Power and candidate for the governorship of Oyo State in 2027, Bayo Adelabu, has commended the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, referring to him as “a leader who drew people in with his influence, offering clear guidance and mentorship.”

Adelabu noted that Ajimobi served as a mentor and leader to numerous politicians, including himself.
On the topic of their bond, Adelabu expressed that the deceased Ajimobi was akin to a father figure in his life.
Naija News has reported that he shared these remarks on Thursday during a discussion that took place at the sixth anniversary Fidau prayer for the late former governor at his home located in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan.
The former Minister acknowledged Ajimobi's leadership of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which, in his view, was strong, cohesive, and devoid of the division it faces today.
He stated, “I became involved in politics largely due to his impact. It was his governance approach and political methods that motivated me to enter politics. My connection with the late former governor was like that of a son to a father,” describing him “as a leader who drew people in with his influence, offering clear guidance and mentorship.”
Adelabu elaborated that the late governor faced obstacles vigorously, especially in regards to security, infrastructure, and education.
“Ajimobi’s attitude indicated that Oyo should be free of crime, and he fulfilled that goal. A governor must tackle criminal activities directly and be prepared to confront them. You cannot avoid crime; you have to address it. This was the approach Ajimobi took,” he remarked.
Thus, Adelabu encouraged APC members and their supporters to look past their individual ambitions and prioritize unity to displace the existing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in Oyo State by 2027.
Naija News has reported that Ajimobi passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at the age of 70, due to complications from COVID-19 while being treated at a private hospital in Lagos.
