George asserted that the internal leadership conflict within the PDP has not been settled, despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing the names of the presidential candidates.
During an interview on TVCās Beyond the Headlines, the senior politician emphasized that only a conclusive ruling from the Supreme Court could clarify the legitimate leadership of the party and its rightful presidential nominee.
He contended that the list released by INEC of presidential hopefuls did not settle the ongoing legal issues between the competing groups within the PDP.
He mentioned that the situation remains in the judicial system and only the highest court can provide a definitive resolution.
He emphasized that the party should be permitted to endorse the candidate acknowledged by its legitimate leadership after all legal matters are resolved.
When questioned about whether he would endorse President Bola Tinubu if the PDP did not secure its chosen candidate, George dismissed the idea of voting for an alternative party.
āIf my party is not allowed to participate, I might just remain at home,ā he commented.
In response to a question about abstaining from voting, George indicated he would prefer to stay home rather than engage in an election where the PDP was perceived to have been unfairly treated.
He stated he would remain at home āenjoying my coffee and tea while relaxing.ā
The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP also called on Tinubu to guarantee that all qualified candidates have the freedom to compete without restrictions.
George suggested that the President already benefits from the perks of being in office and does not require allies who intimidate or confront rivals.
He urged Tinubu to separate himself from what he termed āattack dogsā and to let the electoral process unfold without obstruction.
George argued that a fair and competitive election would enhance Nigeriaās democratic system and bolster public trust in the nation's electoral mechanisms.
