The relatives of the deceased Nollywood actor and comedian, John Ikechukwu Okafor, known widely as Mr Ibu, have called for assistance, highlighting the difficulties they have faced since his passing.
Naija News reports that the family shared their situation during a recent meeting with content creator King Mitchy.
As stated by the family, Mr Ibu’s sole daughter and two sons have abandoned their studies due to unpaid tuition fees.
The mother of the children also mentioned that they have been enduring a lack of electricity and running water for several weeks because they are unable to cover the costs.
“We have been drawing water from the well since I cannot pay the rent. They have disconnected my electricity for the past two months. There has been no power since then. Every night is like that for us. We have to find places to charge our phones, and it’s challenging,” she explained.
Mr Ibu’s daughter reached out to Nigerians and her late father’s friends in the entertainment sector for help.
“I want to express my gratitude to God for my mother, who has done her utmost to provide for us, cover our educational expenses, and keep us happy.
“So, Nigerians, if you worked in the industry alongside my dad, you are witnessing our situation now; please come and help us,” she urged.
The children's mother also revealed that the school had recently contacted her regarding the outstanding tuition fees for her children.
Okafor had his leg amputated in November 2023 following a medical condition that necessitated multiple surgeries.
He passed away in Lagos on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 due to a cardiac arrest.
